An interview with Rulli Kumari-CSB scholar, 2014-2016

Rulli has been one of our brightest CSB scholars till now. Her silent yet firm disposition has always amazed us and we wish her all the very best for her future. She has already secured admission in the reputed Ramjas college in Delhi University in Economics (H)

Excerpts from a brief interview with Rulli taken by her mentor Madhurima Das, (1998 batch)

Madhurima: You have secured 100 in economics. Is that your favourite subject? What is it that interests you most in economics?

Rulli: The paper was extremely easy this year and I found the subject really interesting. I was confident of scoring the highest in Eco after appearing for my XIIth boards. Economics was one of the most real subjects that helped me understand the various market forces, demand supply concept, the concept of black marketing and the volatility of the markets. I never followed the budget sessions earlier but after studying Eco, I found myself interested in these sessions.

Madhurima: Where are you from? Was the journey from a small town to Bokaro difficult? What were your major challenges during the transition?

Rulli: I’m born and raised in Koderma. The transition from a small city to Bokaro never seemed difficult since I had immense support from my friends, teachers and landlord and particularly from my brother who was also studying in Bokaro. He is a distant relative and hails from Koderma, so I would call him for any trouble that I would ever have. He was extremely supportive throughout this period.

Madhurima: What are your plans going further/ your future aims and aspirations?

Rulli: I would like to clear IAS. I plan to enrol myself with suitable coaching sessions along with my graduation studies to prepare for IAS. My elder brother guides me with various books and newspapers that I must follow regularly and that is beneficial.

Madhurima: Who all are there in your family? Tell us some more about them.

Rulli: We are a family of 5. My father is a milkman and my mother is a home maker. I have two elder brothers. My eldest brother cleared Std Xth with great difficulty since he’s never been interested in studies. He has given up his studies and doesn’t do anything currently. My elder brother cleared his XIIth last year and aimed at clearing IIT. He couldn’t and prepared for another year and reappeared this year. Unfortunately, he hasn’t cleared it this year but plans to take admission in other engineering college. He motivates me greatly by sharing a lot of current affair information and introducing me to the various kinds of books that I must read.

Madhurima: What did you like most about Chinmaya Vidyalaya? Who is your favourite teacher and why?

Rulli: Free education was the best part about Chinmaya Vidyalaya. My father couldn’t have afforded my education in such a prestigious institute. Dr. Namita, our Economics teacher was my favourite teacher amongst the other teachers who were equally excellent. She would give us live examples that made the subject extremely easy and interesting to follow the concepts.

Madhurima: Who are your inspiration/ role model?

Rulli: Sandeep Maheswari inspires me greatly. My brother keeps talking about him and I’m deeply inspired by him when I read about his extraordinary journey from humble beginnings to the highest pillars of success. He is a self-made individual who has truly changed the way people perceive success today. I look up to him.
