Recently we organized a talk for Std XIIth students in school by Pratyush Sharma, a Doctoral Fellow at the United Nations-mandated University for Peace in Costa Rica. These talks are a part of our initiative called “Baatein”. Under this initiative, we try to bring in a diverse range of professionals from the industry to share their success stories with the students and inspire them to chase their dreams. We strive to bring in the much needed exposure to the senior students so that they can take a well informed career decision for their future.
Pratyush has 5 years of policy experience in a think tank (affiliated to the Ministry of External Affairs) in New Delhi in areas of foreign policy and development cooperation. He has an academic background in interdisciplinary social sciences with a major in international relations. His research areas are South-South Cooperation and Development Cooperation. He has also been a Global Governance Fellow at The German Development Institute in Bonn. He is the associate editor/correspondent of Development Cooperation Review, India’s only academic journal on development cooperation.
Pratyush turned out to be an absolute favorite with our students and engaged with them extremely well by interacting with them answering their inquisitive questions. He was quite impressed with the students as well. “Brilliant students and great questions” he said.
One of our CSB scholars, Nitesh Kumar Mahato was among the few lucky students who got a chance to be in Pratyush’s session and here are his thoughts about it:
Pratyush Sharma , a brilliant scholar of Bokaro, interacted with us on 4th September. The session was quite fruitful and interactive. He began the talk by giving a brief introduction about his academic carrier. He acquainted us with his research topic i.e “South-South Cooperation” and his experience working in the think tank of India’s External Affairs Ministry. Later on he invited questions from us. This was the moment where his deep knowledge and balanced view in the field of “foreign affairs” showed up. He gave us an overview of the topics related to India’s position in south Asia, Indo-China relations, Trade war , SAARC, Abrogation of article 370 etc. At the same time he suggested some extremely useful tips to enhance our knowledge in this very field.
“Do whatever you like, but always endeavour to be the best in it.”
This was the most inspiring line that I heard in this session. And, of course, Pratyush sir is the live example of this very line. His communication skills are fantabulous . His humble behavior, courteous tone and candid speech are the manifestation of his eclectic personality.
